How I got into this
I went to art school to train as a photographer. After college I
worked for 5 years in London for a bunch of magazines, also doing
theatre photography, and taking portraits for actors.
The twist was that while working as a photographer in the 80s I wrote some software for my Mac to help me keep track of contacts and bookings. It started off as a simple little program, but I ended up adding more and more features and eventually found that I was totally hooked on programming and seemed to have a natural talent for it.
Anyway, one day in 1989 I went to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop to shoot a cover for Sound On Sound magazine, and I got talking to one of their engineers. As it happened he also wrote Mac software. Afer I showed him some of my work he recommended me for a Mac programming job at the BBC, and I've been writing software full-time ever since.
